We offer special education at primary school level and speech therapy.

These can be offered special education

This is for those who are adults and cannot follow ordinary teaching or who have needs under the eduaction act.

• as timetable teaching
• as teaching during periods
• as a course
• as a guide

Cost

The training is free and take place during the day.

This is for you with language, vouce, speech and communication difficulties after illness or injury.

It may be:

• Cognitive communication difficulties
• Stuttering
• Articulation difficulties

We have speech therapists with broad expertise. You will be assessed to form the basis for an offer that is individually adapted.

This is an offer for those who, after illness or injury, need training to adapt to a new life situation or regain previous skills. This can be:

• Language and communication
• Reading and writing
• Master everyday life
• Learning compensatory strategies
• Use of aids
• Social  orientation

This is for those who need basic training in the use of a computer.

Such knowledge is often important in order to participate activly in both working and society

The training will enable you to use digital tools and websites to perform practical tasks, find information and communicate.

You can be training in:

• Use of PC, smartphones and tablets
• Basic training in Word, Excel, image processing, etc.
• Use of keyboard shortcuts and useful utilities
• Use of the internet, online banking, e-mail, social media etc.
• Use computer equipment  such as eye control, mouse, keyboard, etc.

This is for those of you with visual impairments  who need help with basic skills and use of digital aids like smartphones and tablets. We can assist with:

• Special need education for the visually impaired
• Eye movement training
• Compensatory skills training*
• Facilitation of training at other facilitating training at other centres or guiding
• Braille

*Training in compensatory skills may consist of an mapping training needs and training in ADL (activities of daily living), mobility, ICT, use of mobile phones, tablets and various visual aids.

As needed and applicable legislation, we cooperate with other arenas on training for visually impaired people in other disciplines, such as Norwegian language training for adult immigrants.

Activities of daily living (ADL) can be defined as tasks we perform on a daily basis,  such as dressing and undressing, cooking, eating, and keeping track of personal belongings and personal hygiene.

We offer training in everyday activities in food and health, and training in taking public transport in the surrounding area.

Food and health

Food and health are important for physical and mental health. Knowledge about food and health promotes good eating habits and helps to improve quality of life. It is an important subject for participants who need ADL so that they can increase their independence. Some participants may also receive this subject as a practical angle on Norwegian and/or mathematics education.

Communication is, among other things, important for expressing wishes and needs, as well as exchanging information and achieving social contact with others. Communication in ways other than speech is called augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)

When you lose the ability to speak, either in whole or in part, you will need other forms of communication, and department for special training at Tønsberg Learning Center has extencive experience in the use of AAC and can provide: 

• Training in augmentative and alternative communication
• Adaptation of aids for  communication and environmental control
• Educational support materials
• Courses for staff
• Facilitating participation in meaningful activities

The offer can be one-to-one training, training in small groups and organized as a pedagogical guidance. Pedagogical guidance means that the participants is assigned an hourly rescource that can be used flexibly within an agreed period. The use of the resource takes place in cooperation  with the participant, the participant’s close associates and other service providers.
