Communication is, among other things, important for expressing wishes and needs, as well as exchanging information and achieving social contact with others. Communication in ways other than speech is called augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
When you lose the ability to speak, either in whole or in part, you will need other forms of communication, and department for special training at Tønsberg Learning Center has extencive experience in the use of AAC and can provide:
- Training in augmentative and alternative communication
- Adaptation of aids for communication and environmental control
- Educational support materials
- Courses for staff
- Facilitating participation in meaningful activities
The offer can be one-to-one training, training in small groups and organized as a pedagogical guidance. Pedagogical guidance means that the participants is assigned an hourly rescource that can be used flexibly within an agreed period. The use of the resource takes place in cooperation with the participant, the participant’s close associates and other service providers.
